A POEM BY R. STEPHEN
Your presence I sense by my side
to me you’re still my shadow guide
you’ve missed so many lows and highs
this world you wouldn’t recognise
do you live high up on a cloud
come back to me and say you’re proud
if you returned, what might I say
I miss you every single day
About This Poem
Can You Hear Me: losing a father and a friend.
I started writing to help me process the sad passing of my dad, Steve. I found myself writing long pieces; one of which is also published on this site: ‘Where Did You Go?‘.
As this piece is so long, an entirely unedited, I took sections from this poem and re-wrote shorter poems. This is one of them.
This short poem addresses the confusion brought on by processing the finality of death, the feeling that something of them still remains as well as regrets for the conversations which never happened.
If this poem resonates or you have experienced something similar than I’d love to hear from you.
