A POEM BY R. STEPHEN
When you crashed into me
swinging your wrecking ball
my stones collapsed to rubble
your hands tore down my wall
you ripped into my ribcage
a henhouse raiding fox
you staged a lover’s heist
and stole my opal box
your crime remains unpunished
despite my heavy plight
I pray you’ll keep my box safe
this box contains my light.
About This Poem
A Lover’s Heist: you stole the sun from my heart
I was listening to the song “you stole the sun from my heart” by the Manic Street Preachers and I wanted to make this idea into a poem.
One line from the song: “you have broken down my armour” is a line I don’t particularly like, but I do like the idea, which is where the wall and wrecking ball came from.
I chose to use a ‘bank heist’ style theme for the message as these things usually start (according to Hollywood) with some level of deception, before wreckage, violence, thieving and, eventually, disappearance leave destruction in its wake.
